If you would like to control your own domain name, then it is recommended that you transfer your domain name to a 3rd party Domain Name Registration provider (such as Google Domains). This allows you to own the domain/DNS settings, handle the payment of your domain yourself, and prevent you from having to transfer your domain again in the future.

Note: Once your website is transferred into your Google Domains account, see this help article on how to push your GoSite demo website live to your domain.

Transferring A Domain to Google Domains

  1. If you do not already have your domain transfer authorization code (also known as an EPP code) from your previous provider, follow these steps to obtain before continuing to step 2.

  2. Sign in to Google Domains.

  3. Click on the "Transfer" tab on the left-hand side of the page.

  4. Enter the domain name you would like to transfer.

  5. Enter the domain transfer authorization code (also known as an EPP code) you received from your previous provider and click "Continue."

  6. Choose "Copy and let Google manage my DNS settings."

Note: This will import all of the default web settings to keep your old domain settings for the transfer.

  7. Confirm the registration settings and click "Proceed to checkout" to complete payment information and complete the transfer.

  8. There will be a loading period and then it will take you to a page that shows your pending domain transfers. You can click on the little "i" button to see when the transfer will be completed.

Important Note about Domain-Based Emails

Domains and domain-based emails (ie [email protected]) are not connected and need to be transferred separately. If you would like to transfer your Domain-Based Email as well, please reach out to Google directly or follow these instructions for transferring your Domain-Based Email to Google.

Note: If you only plan on transferring your domain name, then you will want to ensure your DNS settings stay connected properly to your email. Please contact Google with questions.
